One freedom of having animal characters, is that Guardians can explore more thoroughly themes such as racism, genocide and oppression. Sometimes the issues faced in Guardians are as small as school bullies and dealing with being an outsider, and sometimes they encompass much more.
What is the rating for this comic?
PG to PG-13, for some violence.
Can you tell me about the Comic’s History?
Guardians is a Web-based Graphic Novel based on a story that was first conceptualized in the early 90′s by creator Lauren Makena. Around 2008, Shai Ashlin joined the project and helped to turn it into what it is today.
Lauren Makena and Shai Ashlin are married college students, and spend most of their free time at coffee shops, drawing, and working when they’re not in school.
How long is Guardians going to be?
Guardians is loosely scripted for many, many issues. The first arc is almost fully scripted (though I like to keep things open just in case). The first arc alone will be 3-5 issues.
What parts of the comic do you and Shai each create?
Backgrounds are drawn by Shai.
Characters, type, dialogue and layout are done by Lauren.
Both work on the story-line.
Can I commission you? Do you take art trades?
Neither at this time, sorry.
Why isn’t there a regular update schedule?
Between how long it takes to draw/colour a page and all of the other responsibilities we have, I just can’t guarantee when pages will be out.
